Seeking Air Quality Engineering Post-doc

We are seeking a post-doc with a PhD in environmental chemistry or chemical/mechanical/environmental engineering or closely related field, with experience in air quality, gas-phase treatment, atmospheric chemistry to work across multiple air/water laboratories to investigate the fate of perfluorinated compounds during thermal treatment of solvent materials. The position is supported by an upcoming multi-investigator, multi-institution (with Univ. of Norte Dame) grant aimed at studying the fate of PFOAs in incineration processes as part of a new SERDP project. At ASU, the post-doc will work closely with, and help mentor, a co-funded PhD student and the work will involve developing methods and protocols for the capture and characterization of fluorinated compounds in gas-phase exhaust streams during thermal/incineration treatment of PFAS laden materials.

The candidate would work closely with Profs. Herckes (Molecular Sciences) and Westerhoff (Environmental/chemical Engineering) in joint laboratory neighborhoods in a state of the art building (ISTB4).  The position would also involve working with graduate students and collaborators at other universities and the sponsor organization.  Therefore, excellent communication skills are needed.  The expectation will be to publish peer reviewed articles as a first author, although extensive collaborative papers are also a natural consequence. There will be opportunities to assist in proposal development.

Interested candidates should send to Prof. Pierre Herckes (herckes@asu.edu) a resume, list of 3 potential references with contact information, and a 1-2 page cover letter describing how their interests match with the above description.  The project start date is May 1, 2020, but our schedule can accommodate earlier or later start dates as well for excellent candidates.

Applications will be reviewed starting January 1st, 2020 and continue until the position is filled with an excellent candidate.
